I was diagnosed at age 5. I can recall getting the flu before my 5th birthday and actually had to miss my birthday party in November. About 7 months later my parents noticed I was going to the bathroom frequently, losing weight, and eating often. I went to the pediatrician where he advised I go to the hospital. I was later diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.

Throughout my life I’ve been highly involved in the diabetes community. I went to diabetes camps growing up. My favorites were Chris Dudley Basketball camp and Gales Creek Camp in Oregon.

In college I studied nursing and after graduating returned to these camps as a camp nurse until finding inpatient nursing jobs on renal/diabetes units. In 2020 I passed my certification exam to become a diabetes educator (CDCES). I know work in a large hospital as a diabetes educator and run my own outpatient diabetes education business.

Diabetes is challenging at times, but has led to numerous blessing and opportunities in my life. The key to thriving is learning to fully manage your blood sugar, I strive to teach all people live with diabetes how to do this.

I am thankful for my diabetes and how it has shaped my life!
