I was diagnosed December 22, 2015. I was 13 and just moved from big city to small town. It came to me as a big shock when I heard I was diabetic. There was already so much going on in life with transitioning from girl to woman and moving to a new area where I didn’t know anyone. Adding on a chronic condition just made it tougher at that time. I still remember the first time I flew in a helicopter due to being in DKA, that was my first year of being diagnosed. My A1C was 13 at the time too. It’s been almost 10 years since then, my A1C now is 7.3. It’s been a heck of struggle but I have persevered through all the hoops and obstacles that I’ve had so far. There isn’t much to my story but I’m thankful for everyone that has helped me along the way my family, my friends, my partner, my community. I plan on keep fighting this fight.

since 2015
