I remember clearly when I was diagnosed with diabetes when I was nine years old. I began to lose weight quickly and was always thirsty. My mom took me to the doctor where they ran some tests. Next thing I know I was in the hospital for 2 WEEKS, learning all about T1D.
I have been very fortunate to live a ‘fairly normal’ life, including partying, working nights, and unusual shifts, bearing three non-diabetic children and only have had trouble with retinopathy in my eyes.
I always wear shoes and keep a good eye on my diet.
Lucky me, I also have been able to enjoy my 5 grandchildren, all age 5 or younger. Great parents. Great doctors. Great support system.
