Claire Thomas

From her mom, Jody:

Claire was dx with type 1 diabetes when she was 3 1/2 years old. We were blessed to be close to Children’s Hospital, and she had great care and education from the endocrine department staff. As she went through grade and middle school, she taught her classmates and teachers about diabetes, and most years did the JDRF Walk at the Milwaukee County Zoo. High school was difficult because she was burnt out from all that goes with diabetes, trying to figure blood sugars while playing volleyball, and the normal angst of being a teenager. Along with her diabetes, Claire also dealt with her dad having stage four CCL, and he died when she was 17. Going to college right after high school was another adventure in taking care of her diabetes. She did a great job though out her entire life, doing the best she could at each stage, in taking care of her diabetes. This year she got married, lives in Chicago, and has two adorable cats. I am so proud of her for many reasons, but one of them being how she’s lived with her diabetes and helped others living with diabetes too.
