From her husband, Bradley:

I am honored to nominate my wife, Jaynie, for the CWD Journey Award. For over fifty years, Jaynie has navigated life with Type 1 Diabetes, transforming her personal journey into a beacon of hope and advocacy for others who face the challenges of this disease. Her story is not only one of personal triumph but also one of unwavering dedication to helping others understand and manage their diabetes effectively.

Jaynie’s journey with Type 1 Diabetes began at the age of 13. Like many teenagers confronted with a chronic illness, she initially grappled with the “why me’s” that often accompany such a diagnosis. However, her path took a pivotal turn at age 15 when her parents rushed her from New York to the renowned Joslin Clinic in Boston due to life-threatening control issues. It was in the inpatient clinic at Joslin where Jaynie learned to live independently with diabetes, embracing the philosophy of respecting rather than fearing the disease.

This foundational experience at Joslin instilled in Jaynie a proactive approach to diabetes management that has defined her life. Over the years, she has worked closely with her medical team and leveraged the support of her family to harness new technologies that keep her blood glucose levels stable. By avoiding the blood glucose roller coaster that can be so detrimental to a diabetic’s health, Jaynie has minimized the long-term complications often associated with the disease.

Yet, despite the best management, diabetes is unpredictable. Jaynie’s approach to these challenges is a testament to her resilience and positivity. She firmly believes in managing diabetes rather than allowing it to manage her, a mindset that has empowered her to lead a fulfilling life despite the disease.

Jaynie’s advocacy extends beyond her personal journey. Over the years her doctors have referred older patients and parents of children with Type 1 Diabetes to her for guidance and inspiration. Jaynie willingly shares her experiences, offering practical advice and emotional support. Her story resonates deeply, providing comfort and motivation to those who might feel overwhelmed by their diagnosis.

Her positive attitude, combined with her wealth of experience, positions Jaynie as a DIABETIC ROCK STAR in the truest sense. She embodies the spirit of the CWD Journey Award, demonstrating that with knowledge, support, and determination, living well with diabetes is not only possible but can also be a source of empowerment and inspiration to others.

In conclusion, Jaynie’s personal journey with diabetes and her tireless advocacy for others make her an exemplary candidate for the CWD Journey Award. Her story is one of courage, resilience, and hope—a true testament to the impact one person can have in the lives of many. It is my sincerest hope that she is recognized for her contributions and continues to inspire those on their own diabetes journeys.
