While I was born into the era of tech, the amazing ways that T1D life has been enhanced the past two decades is endlessly helpful and life changing. We’re now able to shoot for the A1c of a non T1D, should we choose. Our lifelong health along with our daily health and quality of life have the chance to be so great!
This all being said, even when our t1d tech works despite its quirks, we carb count correctly, have perfect timing on insulin, and work to do everything just so, t1d can still throw curve balls at us. And some days/weeks/months … life revolving around T1D gets to be just too much. It’s something we can’t leave at home, can’t take a vacation from. It’s forever a part of us, a part of me. All we can do is continue to learn, continue to take care of ourselves, continue to thrive when we can, and do the bare minimum on days we can’t.
I was a 20-year Medtronic user, a die hard Paradigm fan. The newer systems with integrated cgms brought me into the new age of closed looped systems. The 780g algorithm changed my life! I did opt to make the change to Omnipod this year – another life changing system as tubeless is the most freeing feeling, and being able to bolus from my phone gave me even more freedom (while my pump stays beneath layers of clothing). I’m anxiously awaiting a new tandem mobi now, as I found dexcom G6 a much better fit for me than the Guardian G4, despite painfully missing the 780G algorithm.
I’m incredibly lucky to have access to all of this ground breaking T1D tech (along with multiple insurance companies). I do wish that these companies could integrate their tech together… if onlyOomnipod could adopt the 780G algorithm…. right?
Thanks to this tech, a supportive endo, and undying family support, I get to adventure through life. I get to hike, mountain bike, wade through rivers, race sailboats, pack horses and mules into beautiful backcountry, snorkel corral reefs, surf brisk PNW breaks.
Cheers to all of us T1D warriors. To health, happiness, and leading adventurous lives.
