Rebecca

From her mom, Nancy:

My daughter, Rebecca, was diagnosed with T1D after so many misdiagnoses by the time she turned eight years old. It was a traumatic experience for me, her, and my family. Soon after the diagnosis she was healing from all of her symptoms and accepting her new lifestyle. I was so proud of her how she was dealing with it. Then we had to face challenging issues with the school nurse and the school district where my daughter attended. Rebecca, my husband, and I had to learn how to advocate for her so she could be safe at school. It was a long process but we accomplished the goal. After 2.5 years, changes were made at the school district where she and other T1D students would be accommodated for their own needs whether or not they have a 504 Plan. Since then she has had a happy and healthy life. She has graduated from high school and now she is away to college to make her dreams come true. For this, I believe she deserves a CWD Journey Award.
