Paisley

From her mom, Christina:

My daughter Paisley was diagnosed with T1D at 18 months old. February 15, 2015. I don’t say this next part with any hate in my heart it’s just part of our journey. Unfortunately Paisley was misdiagnosed twice. By the third time I took Paisley into the Dr. Office Paisley didn’t want to eat, Paisley did drink a lot of water, stopped talking, walking and just being my fun loving child. Paisley wouldn’t let me leave her side and slept a lot. It’s almost as if she knew something was wrong with her but couldn’t express or explain it. When we got to the dr. office I told them I wasn’t leaving until I had real answers. They did a lot of tests. I just remember sitting there when they told me the news. I was in shock T1D never heard of it before! Doesn’t run on either side of our families. After Paisley was diagnosed, I was told to go straight to the Children’s Hospital. I just remember being so scared and trying to hold it together for Paisley. I had to call Paisleys dad and let him know what was going on. Dustin and my oldest daughter Aubreana meet us at the Children’s Hospital. We talked to the doctors. Which then we both broke down. We were there for a week.

We learned a lot in a very short period of time. We learned that Paisley’s blood glucose was in the 700s. I’m glad Paisley was diagnosed when she was because if she wasn’t. Paisley might not be here with us today. She had to learn how to talk and walk again which didn’t take very long at all. I’m not going to lie I was very nervous going home. I honestly thought I wasn’t going to be able to take care of Paisley. Our team was so very amazing they took such good care of Paisley. Now Paisley is 11 in the 4th Grade. She loves to draw, arts crafts and plays the French Horn. Paisley has three cats, Weazley, Meowzers & Fozzie. She also has two turtles, Cookie & Slider.

Thriving with T1D
