I can’t believe I’ve made it 25 years. I was diagnosed at age six, not knowing the full complexity of this disease but over the years knowing what it’s capable of. From shots to a pump to CGM to near freedom (so it feels some days). I’m an active runner, mountain biker, mother of one, and don’t believe I’d be as successful at these things without going through my journey with diabetes. I’ve had days of feeling invincible with this disease (like hiking Rim to Rim to Rim of the Grand Canyon), and days of pure defeat and helplessness knowing I’ll take this disease to the grave. I always come back thinking I was given this challenge because God knew I could handle it, and so I have – for the last 25 years, chosen to handle it like a boss. I’m not exactly sure how to feel about making it 25 years other than I’m just so happy to be here BEATING this thing each day. Cheers to good health, and positive vibes despite living with the one thing that tries to kill me each day.
