Greyson

From his mom, Jami:

Ten years ago I cradled my tiny two year old in a hospital bed in shock and sadness. The symptoms that started slowly over a few months quickly snowballed into a diagnosis. The symptoms that multiple doctor visits diagnosed as a virus. The fatigue/frequent napping, “zoning out”, lack of weight gain, episodes of vomiting, paleness, thirst, and frequent wet diapers finally had an explanation. Type 1 diabetes. It felt as if the wind was knocked out of us. The life we imagined for Greyson was suddenly replaced with one full of uncertainty and fear.

Fast forward to now and Greyson is thriving! He enjoys playing golf, football, and riding motorcycles. Diabetes doesn’t slow him down or stop him from anything he puts his mind to. He is independently managing his diabetes and I only step in to “nag” about high blood sugars as Greyson likes to say. Most people will never understand the responsibility he carries with him. He has a strength and wisdom beyond his years. Not everyday is easy but Greyson conquers each day in a way that inspires me. I’ve been able to watch a life I once viewed as uncertain and scary become a life full of hope, happiness, and enduring strength. Greyson is our hero!
