Joaquin
From his mother, Susana:
Our son, Joaquin, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the tender age of 15 months, after dealing with what we all thought was a bad “flu” for over 2 weeks. Our lives were turned upside down on March 20, 2015, when the doctor gave us the news that he had Type 1 Diabetes and was in DKA. Since his diagnosis, however, our family has found so much love and support from Type 1 support groups, his endocrinologist, nurses, staff, friends, and family, and we have found that living with Type 1 Diabetes, although hard at times, does not have to make life more difficult. Our son has shown us, throughout these 10 years, that living with Type 1 Diabetes has made him stronger, more resilient, smarter, and kinder in every shape and form. He has grown so much from the experiences he has had, and has even become more “tech savvy” and more curious about pursuing a career in the field of Medicine. His dream is to one day become a doctor that will be able to help children living with Type 1 Diabetes.

since 2015
