Lexie

From her mom, Tamara:

Diagnosed at 26 months of age, Lexie educated all who interacted with her: family, friends, educators, classmates, and colleagues. She became a mentor, offering support to all she knew with type 1. She began advocating at age 4, lobbying for the Care for School Children with Diabetes Bill in North Carolina – she even got to sign the bill into law with the Governor! Lexie wrote fundraising letters, raising over $300,000 over the years together with her schools, family, and friends. In college, she founded a campus club for students with diabetes and their friends to have a place to learn and support one another. They spoke to nursing classes, volunteered at local events, and raised awareness about living with diabetes. She now lives and thrives in Washington, DC.
