I was diagnosed with Type 1 on January 12, 2000 at only six years old. I had been displaying symptoms that my mother brilliantly recognized very quickly were not right, so she took me to my pediatrician who basically diagnosed me on the spot. After a blood sugar finger test that read back 480, and a urine dip stick test which revealed ketones and sugar, our worlds changed forever that in that office that day. I’m 31 now, 25 years into this, and my mom is still my greatest supporter and advocate from every number to doctor appointment!
