When I was five I was diagnosed. I do not know any other life other then the life of diabetes. My amazing endocrinologist Dr. Steven Leighter was amazing at teacher me independence from the start. He told my mother at our first appointment “You are here to pay the bills she is my patient” (he probably could have said it nicer) He made sure that anyone that came into my care team treated me the best! (I witnessed home going toe to toe with a Dr at the hospital before). He taught me so much, and because of him I was always independent in my care.
