Rebecca
From her mother, Julie:
Rebecca has faced numerous struggles during her journey. Her family’s home was flooded by a hurricane just a few weeks before she received her type 1 diagnosis. In addition to type 1 Becca also has several other autoimmune and genetic health conditions. In spite of these challenges along with so many others, Becca has always displayed a grace and maturity beyond her years and a sweet spirit in spite of overwhelming adversity. She has volunteered as a diabetes educator giving presentations for scout troops as well as serving as a companion and mentor for other children that were diagnosed in her church’s youth ministry. She graduated early from high school and is attending college where she is working on degrees in early childhood education with an autism specialty as well as in digital media technology. She is an avid artist that loves expressing and advocating through her art to raise awareness for type 1, mental health, and other important issues. Through the highs and lows, through the diabetes burnout, through the daily chronic pain she deals with and so much more, Becca has been a warrior, a leader, and an inspiration to so many.
