My Type 1 Diabetes journey started a little later than most. I was 17, a senior in high school, and it was right before Thanksgiving! Who would’ve thought that on 11/23/2015 after a visit with my pediatrician for stomach pain I would be rushed to a children’s hospital awaiting a type 1 diabetes diagnosis. Once diagnosed, I said goodbye to things such as soda and Frosted Flakes while I figured out how to navigate this new life. Lots of lows, lots of highs, a couple of years, and a few cuss words later, I believe I have “figured it out!” I don’t let this diagnosis stop me from anything. I have cracked the code to eating pizza, sushi, and dessert every night. I live a rather normal life and am comfortable within my diagnosis. I have joined support groups and share my journey with people alike and hope to give newly diagnosed ppl a glimmer of hope when speaking to me about their diagnosis.
