I was diagnosed with T1D on August 17th 2000. A year before I had moved to the USA from the UK for a four month business trip. By the time August 2000 arrived, I had just become engaged to a wonderful man, made the decision to stay in the USA, was growing my career and was looking forward to a bright future. The diagnosis was a huge shock, but I have not broken. In my 25 years with T1D, I have traveled the world, been blessed with a strong marriage, raised our son, built a career, managed teams, learned classical horsemanship, sang in a choir. I have lived. I know I am lucky, but I know it is an ongoing journey, especially as I am brittle. I will not let it become the definition of who I am. It is a small part of a life well lived.

Thriving with T1D
