My son is 17 years old and was diagnosed with type 1 about 8 months ago. I have a well-meaning neighbor that is trying to convince me to have my son take a nutritional supplement to help in his treatment of diabetes. She has provided me with some literature that seems to suggest that these nutritional supplements will help him.

I take quite large (several grams) doses of vitamin C every day. At times, for example when I am ill, my blood glucose levels are not that well controlled. However my long term Hba1c test is always quite good, usually around 7. Could this be due to the vitamin C or is it something else?

I had gestational diabetes with my twin pregnancy. However, the condition was not treated and my sons were born with hypoglycemia. Their sugar level was 11. One of my babies was born unconscious. He is now 2 1/2 and having difficulty attending to any activity. What are the complications from such low blood sugar at birth?

Last night my 5 year old daughter had to be injected for the first time with a Glucagon Emergency Kit. Her blood sugar was 42, but we were unable to get her to take any sugar and she was unresponsive. Even though she had a pulse and was still breathing, does this type of situation hurt her body in other ways?

My mother (44 years old) became insulin dependant about three years ago. About two years ago her diagnosis has taken an incredibly different turn. She has gone from hyperglycemia to hypoglycemia literally overnight. Is there a way to tell if there is artificial insulin being introduced?
