Diabetes Canada’s camping tradition began in 1953 in Eastern Ontario. Since that time, our camp program has grown extensively and the organization currently operates nine overnight camp programs across Canada plus numerous year-round programs. Beyond Type 1 is a nonprofit organization changing what it means to live with diabetes. Through platforms, programs, resources, and grants, Beyond Type 1 is uniting the global diabetes community and providing solutions to improve lives today. Founded in 2015 with a focus on education, advocacy and the path to a cure for Type 1 diabetes, Beyond Type 1 has grown to also include programs for those with Type 2 diabetes. A new model of philanthropy, Beyond Type 1 aims to change what it means to live with chronic illness.
Founders + Leadership support operational expenses so that 100% of every dollar raised directly supports the most promising global efforts and programs working to educate, advocate and cure Type 1 diabetes. The College Diabetes Network (CDN) works for the day when all young adults with diabetes are motivated and equipped to live a healthy life, so they can pursue their dreams without compromise. The College Diabetes Network is a 501c3 non-profit organization whose mission is singularly focused on providing young adults with T1D the peer connections they value, and expert resources they need, to successfully manage the challenging transition to independence at college and beyond.

Diabetes@School is a national program that aims to ensure students with type 1 diabetes are safe, supported, and included. The program’s website is the first comprehensive Canadian source of bilingual training materials on type 1 diabetes for teachers and school staff. The site includes videos, posters, template forms, and documents on key diabetes concepts, from insulin to physical activity. Developed by the Canadian Paediatric Society, Canadian Pediatric Endocrine Group and Diabetes Canada, Diabetes@School is a source of evidence-based and current information for educators and families. Diabetes@School has received support from BD, Lilly, Sanofi, Healthy Generations, and the Lawson Foundation.

Diabetes Hope Foundation (DHF) is a grassroots not-for-profit organization founded by its current chair, Barbara Pasternak, in 1999 after two of her three sons were diagnosed with diabetes. The foundation’s mission is to reward, empower and to provide peer education and support for youth in transition to enable them to live successfully WITHIN and BEYOND diabetes. Recognizing the need for supporting transitioning youth who are struggling with the financial and emotional challenges of living with a long-term chronic illness, DHF achieves its mission through the delivery of community programs such as the Scholarship, Mentorship, Transition Workshop and Peer Support, otherwise not accessible to these youth. Working closely with medical and health professionals specializing in youth and diabetes from across Canada, DHF’s programs specialize in transition by providing financial assistance, education, encouragement and support at crucial points of their transition.

The Nightscout Foundation exists to encourage and support the creation of open source technology projects that enhance the lives of people with type 1 diabetes and those who love them. This includes fundraising, advocacy, and direct software and hardware development.

SUPRE makes films that engage, entertain and educate. We empower underpowered voices and present their often unheard points-of-view with insight, vulnerability and authenticity. We specialize in documentaries that have won acclaim the world over. We find unconventional ways to produce our films to make them openly accessible for everyone to watch in a protected online environment.

Type 1 Diabetes TrialNet is the largest clinical trial network ever assembled to change the course of type 1 diabetes. The TrialNet family is made up of physicians, scientists and healthcare teams at the forefront of type 1 diabetes research. Funded by the National Institutes of Health, TrialNet offers risk screening for relatives of people with type 1 diabetes and innovative clinical studies to preserve insulin production. With the help of thousands of volunteers who are participating in their clinical studies, TrialNet is learning more and more about how T1D develops and testing new ways to maintain insulin production before and after diagnosis. TrialNet’s mission is to prevent T1D and stop disease progression by preserving insulin production before and after diagnosis.

The Type 1 Diabetes Think Tank Network (Think Tank) improves clinical outcomes and quality of life for people with Type 1 diabetes (T1D) through collaboration between individuals living with T1D and healthcare providers.
