
Welcome to Friends for Life Fall 2021 - A Week of Virtual Celebration
Does your diabetes need a boost? A little revitalization? Come join the CWD team for our Friends for Life Fall 2021, where the focus is on a week of celebration leading up to World Diabetes Day on November 14.
At Friends for Life Fall 2021, our team will bring the science-based information you need from the world-renowned speakers in the diabetes community to help you thrive with diabetes. Tuesday night will open with a keynote presentation on the discovery of insulin. On Wednesday we'll get back to basics with Diabetes 101 and Carb Counting. Thursday brings our psychologist for discussions on the impact of technology and getting support. On Friday we will focus on advocacy. Saturday is about diabetes technology. Sunday will be a celebration of 100 Years of Us! Each day will include open hallways for casual connections, an info desk for questions, and time to visit with our amazing sponsors in the exhibit halls.
The conference may be virtual, but the friends are for life!

Opening Keynote: Elizabeth Hughes, the Discovery of Insulin, and the Making of a Medical Miracle

Join author Arthur Ainsberg for an incredible journey back in time to the days before insulin was discovered to learn about Elizabeth Evans Hughes, daughter of the US Secretary of State, and her struggle to survive with type 1 diabetes. Elizabeth would become one of the first people in the world to be treated with the miracle of insulin.

Learn about early screening for type 1 diabetes (T1D)
Did you know a person is up to 15x more likely to develop T1D if a family member has it? Now, it’s possible to see T1D coming with The Type 1 Test—a type of blood test. It works by detecting T1D in the earliest stages before there are symptoms. Join Jacquelyn Brown, PhD at Provention Bio as she explains T1D risk factors, how The Type 1 Test works, and the benefits of knowing the test results as early as possible.

Workout with Lauren Salko
Join us for a virtual ambassador workout with Professional Freestyle Skier, Lauren Salko, on Wednesday, November 10th from 6pm-6:30pm ET. Lauren will take you through a fun exercise program that you can do when you’re traveling and have limited space and equipment. To participate, simply join the Zoom meeting link below at the start time.
