Behavior

My 12 year old grandson has type 1 diabetes, at a recent holiday dinner, behaved inappropriately, and I was told by my son that we had to expect bad behavior because of his diabetes. Is there any book I can send to my son and daughter-in-law to help them deal with the emotional problems of diabetes or should I just stay out of it?

My six and one-half year old son was diagnosed at age five. He is in the first grade, very smart, and does his school work well, when he does it. Ten minutes of work can take him one and one-half hours. When pushed, he can do it quickly. His last hemoglobin A1c was 5.5%. Could this be related to his diabetes? Is this a learning disability? A brain thing?

I am researching information about eight year old twins, who have had type 1diabetes from an early age. They need to eat all the time and tend to steal food. Do children with diabetes need to be eating constantly? Is there some other message they are giving to those who care for them?

I work with a 14 year old girl with brittle type 1 diabetes. She has found innovative ways to manipulate her meter to misread her level, which then effects the amount of insulin she receives. Other teenage issues are arising, and the parent is having a lot of difficulty seeing any positive traits while the child continues to manipulate and lie about sneaking. I don’t know if I’m seeking some advice to help the parent or asking for some encouraging words, but both would help.
