I am on Humalog before meals with NPH at bedtime. My blood glucose levels before breakfast and before lunch are okay. However, before supper the blood glucose levels often run very high. If I increase my Humalog dose before lunch, I get hypoglycemic in the afternoon. Do you have a good suggestion?

My 18 year old daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes which I can’t understand because she is grossly overweight. She is a 1200 calorie diet and takes the same doses of insulin every day without carb counting. Can this be type 1 diabetes? Doesn’t she need to match calories to carbs?

Her blood sugar control is not bad, but I have a feeling that it could be better with Humalog instead of Regular pre-meal and Lantus at bedtime. Am I correct? In switching from Regular to Humalog, can I substitute unit for unit? Is Lantus available in a pen device?

Even though I try not to drink liquids after 6:00 pm, I’ m still anywhere from three to six times a night. They put me on oxybutin two weeks ago, but it doesn’t work, and my blood sugars are usually around 140 mg/dl [7.8 mmol/L] when I wake up.

My nine-year-old daughter was diagnosed almost seven years ago. She is being seen by a new doctor. This doctor treats me like a complete idiot! Her A1c levels have never been above 8% or below 6.8% From what I am told and what I have read that is perfect! However, this doctor is insisting that I am doing something wrong, and that there is no way I could maintain such a great level without cheating. I didn’t know her blood lied!

I was of the opinion that the sugar molecules in cake frosting were too big and needed to go to the small intestine for absorption. Can you please clear this up for me?
