I have occasionally forgotten to take my Lantus and have noticed that my fasting sugar is elevated and will not come down or go much higher without food during the day. Is this because I am still producing some insulin? Does the body have a way of getting rid of excess blood sugar without insulin?

Our 11 year old daughter is on Lantus with Humalog before meals, and her morning readings are consistently 300-400 mg/dl [16.7-22.2mmol/L] even though we try to put her to bed with a blood sugar under 200 mg/dl [11.1 mmol/L]. Any suggestions?

My 14 year old daughter was recently rushed to hospital. Her blood sugar was 124 mg/dl [6.9 mmol/L], but she large ketones and was vomiting. No infection or virus was detected. Around 2 am the next morning her fever went away, her blood sugars were normal and the ketones were gone. Any reasons as to why this happened?
