My fiance has type 1 diabetes, and since diagnosis it has been very well managed, but he is now having difficulty because of his work schedule. We find it almost most impossible to keep his blood sugar down. Could the stress and extreme tiredness his job puts him under be having an effect on his blood sugar level? How we might be able to manage this?

My ex-son-in-law says my 10 year old grandson is considered a radical diabetic because of the fluctuation of his sugar levels, and the child should be testing every 90 minutes. I have never heard of this; could it be true?

I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes a week ago exactly, but my physician hasn’t put me on insulin yet because he wants me to go to a endocrinologist. How soon after diagnosis can I be put on the pump?

I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when my blood sugar was 1200 mg/dl [66.7 mmol/L]. As I got somewhat better, my blood sugar got lower than 15 mg/dl [0.8 mmol/L] so I started taking one unit a day. My new doctor now (who seems to know a whole lot more) said I have type 2 diabetes and took me off insulin completely two years ago. Will I have to take the shots again or can I just control the blood sugar level with diet?

I have type 2 diabetes managed with diet and exercise, and my last three A1c levels are in the 6.3 – 6.7% range with fasting blood sugars are within range, but my post meal sugars are somewhat elevated. Should I be worried about my peak levels? Should I start taking some kind of medication? Am I okay as long as I keep my A1c within 7% range?

I have had type 1 diabetes for the past 12 years, and, to be honest have only recently been accepting of the consequences of bad control. My last A1c was 11% and has been around that level since diagnosis, despite varied routines. Is it possible that I have an insulin intolerance as well as type 1 diabetes since I also have PCOS?

Two weeks ago I had my pancreas, spleen, duodenum and part of my stomach removed, yet I was sent home without too much information. I am currently using a pen with Toronto (Regular) and NPH and I have a blood glucose meter, but I need to know whether I am just supposed to do my sugars four times a day or if I need to be doing more. Although I realize it has only been two weeks, my blood sugars are very sporadic, ranging from 2.1 mmol/L [38 mg/dl] to HI.

I am 41 years old, I was diagnosed a year ago. I had “a slight presence of antibodies.” I just returned from my endocrinologist and was upset to be informed that I am a “slowly developing type 1” (due to the antibodies) rather than a type 2. Any observations about my situation?

I found out this week that my husband, my 10 year old daughter and my eight year old son all have MODY, but I did not receive much information from the hospital. Can you explain what it is? Is it okay to have an A1c 8.5% and not be taking any form of insulin?
