My 12 year old daughter is becoming very active in sports, and her schedule has become very uncertain. At bedtime (9:30 P.M.), she has been running high (over 200) and is becoming discouraged. How can we adapt to her busy schedule and still keep her glucose under control?

My daughter has had type 1 diabetes since she was nine, and her blood count is always high. The problem got so bad that now she is on a child protection order for neglect. The worst thing is that they put her on this order, but nothing has changed, and she still has high blood sugars. Please give us some advice as to how to get her blood count low.

My cousin is very disturbed about the course of treatment her grandson is receiving. He’s allowed to eat anything he wants and then, based on the carbohydrate calculation, he’s medicated accordingly. He goes through many highs and lows and often ends up in the emergency room. Could this be a proper course of treatment?

Our health care team seems to think that if blood glucose is high for less than four hours, there is no physiological harm done. The practical application of this idea would be that if my son tests himself frequently and takes a bolus to bring himself down that this will avoid the long term complications of diabetes. I would like to better understand the physiology of this theory.

My two year old son, diagnosed with type 1 diabetes about six months ago, is currently taking NPH with Regular twice daily, and he has extreme swings. The hospital is now talking with us about basal/bolus therapy, but we are still very overwhelmed with this diagnosis and just aren’t sure of the options available to us. How do we know what therapy is right for our two year old son?

My three year old daughter was diagnosed three months ago, and her diabetes team recently switched her to Lantus with Humalog at every meal (and sometimes snacks). So we are talking about four to five shots a day for a three year old. With this regimen should she go on a pump or an infusion set?

My four year old daughter suffers from very erratic blood sugar levels, but her doctor does not see it as a problem. She does not show signs of becoming hypoglycemic even when she reaches low blood sugar values. This is extremely worrisome as are her highs. Do you think I should seek a second opinion?

I have type 2 diabetes, and my morning sugars are higher than the bedtime sugars (always have been, regardless of what medication/diet I’m using). If I wanted to do a home version of a glucose tolerance test, how would I do it?

I’m a teenager who has diabetes, my recent A1c was 12% (which is pretty high), and now my parents are freaking out about the whole thing. They think that I don’t know what to do to fix it. It’s like they don’t know that I know I can handle my own disease, and it’s really frustrating! What am I supposed to do to prove to them that I know what to do?
