My newborn granddaughter has been diagnosed with neonatal diabetes. We’ve been told that there is a 70% chance that she will outgrow it. If this does not occur, what is the long term prognosis for a normal life span? Also, is there a current treatment to increase the odds of this happening?

I am looking for a place for my son at age 16 for him to get his diabetes under control; a place where there are people all the time who specialize in diabetes, not a regular hospital that the nurses aren’t always working with these children. Is there anyplace in the U.S. that this happens?

With the pump I have greatly lowered my “low days”, but my high days have become worse in terms of blood sugars and length, and now I have ketones too. Is it possible that I am becoming resistant to the Humalog in my pump? Do people with long term type I diabetes become more insulin resistant over time? Any other ideas as to what could be happening?
