My son’s school had an ice cream party, and since he his sugar was about 300 mg/dl [16.7 mmol/L], I decided to give him some insulin and let him have some. His teacher, whose husband has diabetes, decided to give me her two cents about doing what I did. Was I wrong for doing that?

She checks her blood sugar regularly, but the hypos come as quickly as a blink of the eye, and she gets no warning they are coming. I am extremely concerned for her safety and well being. I was recently comparing notes with a friend, and her doses are quite different than mine. She is taking twice as much as I take for food count, one-quarter more as a correction factor, and her Lantus dose is significantly lower. Why is there such a difference, particularly with regard to the Humalog?
