My 75 year old father-in-law has had type 2 diabetes for 25 years and takes 70/30 insulin each morning, but his blood sugars have been elevated at 5:00 pm and 9:00 pm. His daughter was told to give him 70/30 instead of Regular insulin to bring it down. Could you clear up this question, or tell us where we might can find help?

They have tried to get the diabetes controlled but are not having much luck. We understand this is a very rare disorder, that often it is transitional and will resolve by three to six months of age, but we would appreciate any information that you may have.

Is it at all possible for a child’s body to be once again producing some insulin after almost four years of diabetes in which it seemed he was producing none? How long does a honeymoon last? Are there any cases of a spontaneous remission from type 1 diabetes?

My 5 1/2 year old son was diagnosed almost 1 year ago. His blood sugar readings are still like a roller coaster — some days way high, some days low, not necessarily at the same times of the day. His diet is fairly consistent from day to day. What could be the explanation for such inconsistencies in readings?
