I have type 2 diabetes, and for about eight years I’ve been non-compliant. Two weeks ago, I started eating correctly and exercising three times per week. When my blood sugars got low enough, I stopped taking my insulin, and my brain is foggy (with or without insulin). Why am I feeling this way when my blood sugars were doing so much better?

My 19-year-old son has had diabetes since he was seven years old. Here of late, his glucose levels have been very unstable. His doctor has increased his Lantus to 40 units from 28! My son feels like “walking” insulin. Is there anything different he can do in your opinion with his insulin dosages? Is this normal for a 19-year-old to go through?

My daughter’s blood sugar readings are pretty good during the day with Humalog, but she takes NPH at night, and it doesn’t seem to work. Her readings are high from 11:00pm to 6:00 am, even though her doctor keeps increasing the dose (from 10 to 22 units now). What would you recommend in a case like this?

I have type 1 and use an insulin pump. I’ve noticed that when I go high and treat it, in the process of coming down, I’ll feel a little nauseous. Both my endocrinologist and gastroenterologist don’t think it could be gastroparesis, since I haven’t had diabetes all that long. Also, I have had a problem lately with having highs consistently after dinner.

I was just diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, and I also developed slight depression upon learning about this disease, along with a sinus infection and the onset of menopause setting in. I am on a diabetes pill, medication for depression and hormone replacement therapy. With all that said, I really don’t know how I’m supposed to feel physically, much less mentally. How is all of this affecting my blood glucose levels?

My 13 year old daughter has had diabetes for four months, her A1c is 5.3%, her Lantus dose is about one-third of what it was, I can’t really remember the last time she took a shot for her meals, and she is still low at lunch time. If my daughter continues like this, can she come completely off of Lantus? Her doctor wants to check her blood for those antibodies.

My seven year old daughter, diagnosed with type 1 diabetes just about six months ago, is on Humalog and Lantus, and we are working hard at counting carbohydrates. When we actually get her two hour post meal blood sugar in the target range, we are very happy, but then she usually drops to low levels about 90 minutes later. Is there something else we need to do?
