My doctor is not saying I have gestational diabetes, but she wants to keep an eye on me. I have been keeping track, and my fasting is usually 95-102 mg/dl [5.3-5.7 mmol/L], and my one-hour can go up to 170 mg/dl [9.4 mmol/L], but it is back down to around 120 mg/dl [6.7 mmol/L] at two hours. Do you think I have gestational diabetes?

This is my first pregnancy. My one-hour glucose tolerance test showed a level of 158 mg/ dl [.8 mm/l] My doctor says that 134 mg/dl [7.4 mmol/L] is their “normal cut-off range”, and they are insisting that I submit to the three-hour screen. Aren’t there better, non fasting ways to test more accurately how my body metabolizes sugar?

My doctor suddenly decided to put me on a strict diet at 28 weeks into my pregnancy because my one-hour glucose test was high but the three-hour test was normal. Am I at a higher risk for type 2 diabetes after pregnancy? How will this affect the baby?

I was just diagnosed with gestational diabetes. I am a nurse and work both night shift and day shift; thus, my sleeping and awake hours are very irratic. Is it reasonable to not have a period of fasting but eat every four hours?
