Hypoglycemia

My 14 1/2 year old daughter has had diabetes for almost six years. She does fine until she has had a few days of frequent exercise, then she tests her blood sugar before bed, thinks everything is okay, but she has a seizure between 2 am and 5 am. I am concerned about this.

My 12 year old has had seizures at a blood sugar of 55 mg/dl [3.1 mmol/L], but the other day at school, he was 23 mg/dl [1.3 mmol/L] and although he was shaky, pale, and flushed, he did not have one. What are the long term effects of seizures from severe low blood sugars? How come my son does not have a seizure when he is awake?

My 12 year old son, who has had type 1 diabetes for the past two years, is unable to feel lows throughout the night which has resulted in three seizures. He is extremely active in sports, and we usually compensate for this activity by giving an extra starch at bedtime. At the present time, I check his blood sugar before I go to bed and usually twice throughout the night. We are considering whether to go on a pump. Would a pump help with stabilizing his blood sugars through the night?

My son had a diabetic seizure and was admitted to a hospital. After three days, they sent him home with uncontrolled sugar levels, and I requested that he be transported to the children’s hospital to be checked out and stabilized, but they sent him home. As a parent, did I not have the right to keep him in or request a specialty hospital?

My 29 year old husband, who has had type 1 diabetes for 15 years, had what I believe to be a severe hypoglycemic reaction last night, but I am not sure because it was so different from past insulin reactions. What would cause this kind of violent reaction as opposed to all previous insulin reactions?
