Hypoglycemia

My daughter can’t understand why this reaction (not her worst by far in terms of blood sugar readings) created such an unusual response, nor can she understand why she didn’t recognize she was low.

In the past few months, my 28 year old friend has had more episodes of low blood sugar. The problem I see is that he is not really taking any responsibility towards making himself more aware of getting low or that he doesn’t really care that much about it because he knows we can take care of him if he gets really bad. However, I feel that he has a problem and psychologically might be using his low sugar spells for attention. Can he really be that unaware of his low blood sugars and be unable to anything about it?

My four year old son, diagnosed with type 1 diabetes a year ago, has A1c levels from 6.5-7%, but in attempting to maintain good glycemic control, he experiences occasional low blood sugar levels less than 50 mg/dl [2.8 mmol/L] usually related to increased physical activity. My daughter is 9 and has had diabetes for 7 years. What could explain the fact that 2 weeks ago she was getting 1 or 2 units of Humalog in the morning along with 15 units NPH, nothing at lunch and by supper she had been running low (50’s)?

My six and one-half year old son was diagnosed at age five. He is in the first grade, very smart, and does his school work well, when he does it. Ten minutes of work can take him one and one-half hours. When pushed, he can do it quickly. His last hemoglobin A1c was 5.5%. Could this be related to his diabetes? Is this a learning disability? A brain thing?
