Insulin

I am a 55 year old man who has had type 2 diabetes for 20 years, and now my doctor has now advised me to take insulin injections. However, I feel severe itching just like allergy in throughout my body just after taking the insulin which remains almost until the next injection. Why is this? What should I do? Should I not use insulin? If so, how can I control my sugar?

I’m 22 years old, I have had type 1 diabetes for two and a half years, I take five to six shots of Humalog a day depending on what my sugars are in addition to 35 units of NPH at bedtime, and I think this is quite a lot of insulin for one person to be taking. Will this much insulin at such a young age in life cause problems down the road for me?

My 13 year old son has type 1 diabetes which is presently has well managed at night by taking advantage of the peak of the bedtime NPH to address the increased insulin needs in the pre dawn hours. I am curious to know how this increased need would be managed using Lantus instead of NPH. Would not most patients with type 1 experience a spike in those pre-dawn hours?

I was on tablets for some 20 years before I started taking insulin two years ago. Now, I inject 200 units each day, and I am very concerned about what I think is the high insulin amounts needed to keep my blood sugar within range. I have gained much weight (60 pounds to be exact) since I started insulin injections. I would appreciate a second opinion on my weight and high insulin intake.

I inquired as to switching from regular injections to a pen and was told that pork NPH is not available for these pens. The reason I inquired is that a bottle of insulin doesn’t seem to last the full month for us. Do most doctors still use pork NPH for children?
