Four days ago, I started the low carbohydrate diet. My diet is now high in protein and fat, and low in carbohydrates. With this diet, my blood sugar control has been nothing short of spectacular, but I tested positive for large amounts of ketones this morning. I would like to continue on this diet, but, as I understand it, ketones are a bad thing. What do you think is happening?

My grandson, age 12, has had type 1 diabetes for about 6 months. He loves sugar and counts carbs but has sugar cereal for breakfast, Twinkies, etc., for snacks and feels as long as he doesn’t go over his carb allowance this is okay. Is this a problem?

My 11 year old granddaughter is very short and has been overweight most of her life. She doesn’t exercise and eats eat mostly high carb food. I watched her consume 700 calories for breakfast then move on to lunch and supper plus snacks. There is a family history of diabetes on both sides so I am concerned that this child is on her way to developing diabetes herself.
