During two hospital stays, an 84 year old had two elevated fasting blood sugars. She is several medications including HCTZ (12.5 mg every other day) which (so I have read) can raise glucose levels. If she stops the HCTZ, is it reasonable that we see a decrease in blood sugars or has some process been set into motion which cannot be stopped?

I recently read an article stating that the anti-psychotic drug Zyprexa (Olanzapine) can be responsible for causing diabetes. I developed type 2 diabetes after starting this drug and was wondering if you had any information about this connection. If I have to give glucagon, can I use an insulin syringe? I think it would be more comfortable because, to me, the syringe in the kit just seems so big, and in an emergency I think I would be afraid to use it.

In the instructions in the Glucagon Kit, it says that my 11 year old daughter should get the full amount (1 cc), but in the book the hospital gave us, it says a child under the age of 18 should only get half that amount (0.5 cc). Which is the correct dose? Can a larger dose hurt her?
