I try to insist but this makes him even angrier. Do I have the right to physically check his blood glucose even if I have to have help restraining him? What do you suggest?

We want to know how fast a child recovers full mental function after a low or high (both moderate and extreme). Our child’s school is requesting this for the 504 Plan to determine how long after a high or low a child can reasonably be given a test. We have been told the next day at earliest but need authority (and/or literature references) on this question.

My six year old has her regular diabetes check ups that unfortunately fall during school hours, and this year students who have perfect attendance get to go on a field trip every quarter to the movies, so now she does not want to go to her appointments because she doesn’t want to miss out of a perfect attendance award with her friends. I have a student with type 1 diabetes, and all of this current year his blood sugar has been running very high. I think it is a crime for a child today, who can take advantage of all of our modern technology and new insulins, to be facing problems basically from lack of concern by family. Is it some form of abuse or neglect to not provide adequate care for a child with diabetes?
