Question from Elkhorn, Wisconsin, USA:

A two and a half year old boy I know, recently diagnosed with diabetes, got sunburned very bad. He started to get a runny nose and a little bit of a cough. He then had a fever of 102 degrees and was taken to the doctor. They discovered that he was in the beginning stages of pneumonia. Is this all a result of the sunburn possibly wearing down his immune system?

Answer:

From: DTeam Staff

It is likely not related to a weakened immune system. Children with diabetes do not have a weakened immune system.
