Insulin Pumps
Question from Denmark:
Can a mobile phone harm an insulin pump if it is put in the same bag or pocket, as it says in the papers for my cell phone?
Answer:
Apparently, Disetronic had very very occasional problems with cell phones in one of their older models. Static electricity can erase the settings in older pump models. This could be a problem in a number of settings the commonest being with extended walking on thick carpets and cell phones were also involved very rarely in one model.
The problem has now been exhaustively examined by the manufacturer’s engineers and it is believed that it has been overcome except in some extreme situations such as power line engineers may encounter. If you are concerned about this risk in your own case, you should contact the pump maker’s representative.
