Question from London,Ontario, Canada:

Can diabetic ketoacidosis be caused by excessive ingestion of candy?

Answer:

From: DTeam Staff

A combination of insufficient insulin plus excessive sugar can lead to DKA [diabetic ketoacidosis].

JS

[Editor’s comment: In other words, excessive ingestion of candy by itself, will not cause DKA unless there is not enough insulin to take care of it. In someone who does not have diabetes, eating a lot of candy may cause weight gain, but not DKA.
