Can hyperglycemia occur in people who have not been diagnosed with diabetes?
Answer:
From: DTeam Staff
Yes, hyperglycemia can occur in people who do not have diabetes. Stress and illness can do this. Sometimes, after a huge glucose load, the blood glucose will rise to hyperglycemic levels for a brief time. Non fasting or post prandial hyperglycemia is getting a lot of press, and the American Diabetes Association will host a conference on it next year. Postprandial hyperglycemia seems to be a precursor of diabetes in many people, especially those who are to develop type 2.
