Question from Minnesota, USA:

Can I die from having type 1 diabetes?

Answer:

From: DTeam Staff

If diabetes is not managed properly, high blood glucose levels can lead to long term complications such as heart disease and kidney disease. These complications can lead to chronic problems and possibly a shortened life. But, the good news is that we have many effective therapies to help control blood sugar levels. Checking blood sugar, following a healthy meal plan, getting plenty of exercise, taking medications as prescribed and working closely with a diabetes team are all great ways to manage diabetes. And while none of us is guaranteed long life and health, you have lots of tools to support your efforts.
