Question from Trinity, Texas, USA:

Can people with type 1 diabetes use Somersweet (a sugar substitute sold by Suzanne Somers)?

Answer:

From: DTeam Staff

After reviewing the Suzanne Somers’ website and a listing of ingredients in the SomerSweet sweetener, it appears to be safe to use for a person with diabetes although the acesulfame-K ingredient is not a naturally occurring substance. However, SomerSweet is quite costly. If you are interested in a good alternative sweetener that “won’t break the bank”, I would recommend Splenda. Splenda is as heat stable as SomerSweet claims to be.
