Question from South Africa:

Can you tell me the difference between the HbA1c and glycohemoglobin tests? Are they one and the same?

Answer:

From: DTeam Staff

Essentially hemoglobin A1c and glycohemoglobin are the same, although the technology and final result can vary some between laboratories.

[Editor’s comment: It really doesn’t matter what technology is used, as long as it’s the same from one test to the next, since changes in the values over time are more important than any single value.
