Question from India:

Do antacids, acidic or alkaline foods and intake of more or less water effect blood glucose levels?

Answer:

From: DTeam Staff

There may be some indirect effects on food intake related to the food types or substances you mention. For instance, if you eat a lot of a certain kind of food, let’s say acidic foods, and you have symptoms from them, it could be imagined that this would cause distress and result in decreased food intake. If you drink more water, you may have early satiety and eat less. The problem with eating acidic or alkaline foods is that they are not eaten alone in a meal. The result of the larger food bolus, all the food eaten together, has the major effect. Then, factor in that the stomach and the intestine guarantee their internal environment with secretion of fluids that are primarily acidic in the stomach and alkaline in the small intestine; these gut factors probably play a more pivotal role in digestion pH.
