We went to a diabetes conference and saw the T:slim pump. Do you know anyone who is using it and do they like it?

Second question: we only have a endocrinologist who is not pump savvy and is very laid back. My son’s last A1c was 10.5. Should I look for an endocrinologist who also has a diabetes educator and nurse?

The T-slim is an innovative new product but without a lot of experience from users or diabetologists/nurse educators, yet.

The bigger problem is the dangerously high A1c with high risk for future diabetes complications. How long has it been this high? Is an insulin pump going to help solve these problems? If from not monitoring, not using the monitoring results or not knowing how to carbohydrate count, adapt insulin, etc. then those problems don’t get corrected with an insulin pump. If someone is using MDI, checking blood sugars frequently and adapting insulin day-by-day but still not achieving glucose control, then an insulin pump may help resolve this problem. Similarly with being able to decrease hypoglycemia, especially overnight, and adapt multiple basal rates rather than with injections of insulin. If your current endocrinologist does not have pump knowledge then there are many other diabetologists in the region who do have such experience and worthwhile to get another opinion.
