A fasting blood sugar, after fasting for at least eight hours, of 100 to 125 mg/dl [5.6 to 6.9 mmol/L] indicates pre-diabetes. A blood sugar of 126 mg/dl [7 mmol/L] or higher is considered diabetes. The readings must occur on two separate days.
