Question from Mandeville, Louisiana, USA:

Does anyone have updated information on “alert dogs?” What do you know about their effectiveness, cost, availability? Can you train your own dog?

Answer:

From: DTeam Staff

As of August 2007, there is no scientific evidence to support the use of diabetes alert dogs to detect hypoglycemia. While there are anecdotal reports of detecting lows from people with dogs, that is not the same as scientific evidence.

We have some links to organizations that train dogs at our page on Diabetes Alert Dogs.
