Question from the Bronx, New York, USA:

Does diabetes (even when the blood sugars are normal) affect the child’s behavior and/or moods?

Answer:

From: DTeam Staff

Diabetes should have no significant effect on children’s mood or behavior when their blood sugars are normal.

[Editor’s comment: While Dr Brown’s answer is true, many children with diabetes experience anger/frustration toward it. They made not verbalize their feelings openly but they show with mood and behavior changes. This child needs some counselling to allow venting of the feelings, identification of problems, and development of a treatment plan.
