Does insulin or diabetes affect babies’ growth? My baby has been on insulin for four months and he had not been growing much. He has been 10 kg (22 pounds) and 83 cm (about 32.6 inches) since going on insulin, which was when he was 15 months old. He does not have a big appetite and it is difficult to get him to eat.

With the new insulins and the intensified insulin regimens now widely available to patients, diabetic babies, in good metabolic control from the very beginning of their disease, generally grow as tall as it’s written in their genetic background. Growth is not dependent on appetite though. Let him be free to eat when he’s really hungry without forcing him to eat when he’s supposed to eat.
