How do they know that type 2 diabetes is not just the over production of glycogen by the liver?

The etiology of type 2 diabetes is varied and there are numerous studies which indicate that several factors are involved. Insulin resistance is one of the factors, lack of insulin production is another and increased glucose production is also involved.

The are also ongoing clinical studies on prevention of diabetes which may answer some of the questions as to which factor is dominant.
